What’s the Cost: Bottled Water Delivery vs. Water Filtration
There are many reasons to use delivery or in-home water services, whether you have bottled water delivered to your home or a filtration system installed.
You may not like the taste of your tap water, or it may have questionable quality. Whatever the reason may be, it can be difficult to figure out which option works best for you financially.
The costs associated with water services can be broad, and it can be confusing to the consumer as far as what is included in these costs. Is it just the product? What about delivery fee? Will I be responsible for maintenance?
Then there’s the question of which service should you choose. With several options on the market, should you choose individual bottles, 5-gallon jugs for a water cooler dispenser, or water distillation? What is the cost of each of these?
If you are looking for a one-stop shop that highlights the associated costs, as well as the benefits, of each of these, you’ve come to the right place!
Here at Exell, we would not be doing our due diligence if we did not help to alleviate some of your fears by answering these great questions. So, let’s take a look at each so that you can better decide which works best for you and your family!
Is Bottled Water Delivery for Me?
That depends. If you value convenience and great-tasting water, then yes, bottled water delivery is a great choice! You are able to tailor your order to fit your family’s needs. If you are a family that is always on the go, individual bottles are a great, portable option.
If you are frequently at home, looking into a less portable option, such as a water cooler dispenser or water filtration system, could be a great choice.
One thing to consider is that bottled water delivery services are costlier than filtering your tap water at home; however, we believe that the costs are justified given the benefits.
Next, we will dive into the specifics to find out how much costlier.
Bottled water has many benefits, but don’t just take our word for it. The FDA regulates the safety of bottled water to ensure that it is of top quality.
3- or 5-Gallon Jugs
If this is the route you choose to take, you will need a way to dispense it. Our team at Exell will provide you with a water dispenser cooler. In addition to delivery, we also perform a site survey and water quality test in each home that we service.
The average household can expect to spend somewhere between $30 and $50 per billing period for water delivery services for their water cooler dispenser. Included in this cost may be the environmental surcharge per delivery, a water cooler rental fee and routine water cooler maintenance.
There are several models of water coolers that range in price and capabilities, from serving room temperature water to heating and cooling water. Water cooler rentals are generally $11-15 per billing period.
Because of the maintenance fee, many companies require you to use their coolers; however, we suggest checking with your provider to see if it is possible for you to buy your cooler rather than rent it. This can save you money in the long run.

Water Filtration and Purification
If your family is concerned about the environmental impact of bottled water, it may make more sense to have one of our highly skilled technicians install a filtration system into your home.
What can I expect from this service?
If you opt for water filtration, the first step is to perform a site survey that tests your water. From these results, our experts will help you select which system will best suit your needs. All of our options will result in a functional system that is aesthetically pleasing.
Once your system has been installed, we will perform testing and filter changes twice a year. This is included in the price of your equipment rental.
Our water filtration systems are designed to eliminate hard minerals, improving the taste and smell of your tap water. Over time, hard water builds up calcium deposits which affect the water pressure and general quality of water.

Choosing the Right Option for Clean Water
When Exell began over 80 years ago in the backyard of Exell Calhoun, he had one goal in mind: providing his friends and neighbors with convenient and great-tasting water. While we have grown from a backyard delivery service, we still consider our service to be our prized possession, and we still consider our customers to be our friends and neighbors.
Having access to clean water should be an affordable option for every family, and with options as low as $9.99, we can fit into any budget.
If you are still unsure, try asking yourself a few questions:
- Do I have room to store gallon jugs, or space to place a water dispenser?
- How much water will I be consuming?
- Is my water safe for hygienic activities- such as brushing teeth and showering?
- How is the overall quality of tap water in my area?
Whatever service you decide for your family, Exell will be with you every step of the way to ensure seamless installation and service. Water isn’t just what we sell, it’s what we do.
