What Are Antioxidants and How Do They Work?

We hear all the time from our doctors about antioxidants and how they’re good for us, but what exactly are antioxidants? What are the benefits of antioxidants?

Antioxidants are substances that protect our cells against free radicals in our bodies.

Free radicals are the molecules that are produced when we break down food. They play a vital role in many diseases, and thankfully, our bodies have their own antioxidant defenses to monitor the free radicals.

Antioxidants can come in many different forms, such as Vitamin A, C, and E, and are most commonly found in fruits and vegetables.

But you’re in luck, because BUBBL’R, our naturally caffeinated sparkling water, is not just flavorful, but filled with antioxidants, too.

Free Radicals

Free radicals most commonly cause damage to tissue and cells in the body. Although we do not willingly desire free radicals, our bodies can convert them into something positive.

Our immune system can use free radicals to fight infection. If this is not the case, our bodies can lead to a state of oxidative stress. When this stress is prolonged, it could potentially damage DNA and other vital molecules in our body.

How Free Radicals and Antioxidants Work Together

Antioxidants provide the extra electron needed to make the pair by breaking down the free radical molecule. Once broken down, it’s harmless.

Antioxidants can also stop the expansion and chain reaction of free radical formation. By doing this, it can help boost our immune system and benefit our health overall. A diet rich in antioxidants is essential.

Causes of Free Radical Formation

So, what are some things that could cause oxidative stress and eventually radical formation?

  • Cigarette smoke
  • Alcohol intake
  • High blood sugar levels
  • High intake of polyunsaturated fatty acids
  • Radiation
  • Infections
  • Too much/too little oxygen in the body

Different Types of Antioxidants and Their Benefits

Antioxidants can be in the same category as water or fat-soluble. Water-soluble antioxidants, which is Vitamin C, can perform their actions within the fluid in our bodies and the outside cells. Fat-soluble antioxidants, which is Vitamin E, acts primarily within the cell membranes.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A helps with many aspects of the body, from vision to reproduction. Vitamin A not only helps with bone growth, but also improves skin.

Vitamin A is so important for the human body to function properly. One way to get your daily dose of Vitamin A is through BUBBL’R. This flavorful, refreshing drink offers 450mcg of Vitamin A, which is 50% of the daily recommended value!

Vitamin B

Similarly, Vitamin B is good for overall health. It helps improve cholesterol, boosts brain function, and maintains a healthy digestive system. Vitamin B also assists the body in creating several neurotransmitters and hormones. These improve body function and mood.

This specific vitamin helps with energy level, too. So, while you’re sipping on your delicious sparkling water, you can rest assured knowing that BUBBL’R is full of health benefits that will likely leave you feeling better than you did before.
